The study was conducted by the Office of the National Statistics (ONS) from a random sample of 6,000 people in the United Kingdom.
Sore throat, fatigue, cough and muscle pain are the more common symptoms of the new UK variant of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), according to a survey in England.
The survey that involved people in private households in England self-reported their symptoms and were not professionally diagnosed.
They were tested over two months from November 15, 2020 to January 16, 2021.
Results of ONS study
ONS said people reported loss of taste and smell that less likely showed with this new form of the virus.
The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) lists down the symptoms which include a high temperature, a new continuous cough and a loss or change to sense of smell or taste.
People who test positive of the new variant still experience one of the three main symptoms. Most, if not all, develop at least one of them.
The new variant, which was first spotted in Kent in September 2020, according to findings spreads more easily than the previous form of the virus. This has now spread across the UK, causing a surge in cases which prompted the current lockdown.
